In a Rowboat

Her black hair flowed in the moonlight pale
Her eyes shimmered like the water beneath
Her beauty was like that of a fairy-tale
Crowned with light like some holy wreath

We sat in a rowboat upon the lake
and the stars sang above us blithely
In her gaze I knew not if I was awake
nor could I continue thinking wisely

Her presence was as an orchid white
in a bouquet of grass and weeds
The gentle glow, a hopeful light
in the mess of darkest deeds

She smiled at me and told me then
that this was our moment in time
I smiled and spoke and smiled again
before writing her, this rhyme
